DIY No Sew Faux Leather Clutch

I am so excited to share this DIY with you! I didn’t intend for this to be a no-sew project, but that’s how it ended up and I’m so glad it did. I love this scalloped look for spring, and the black faux leather is perfect for night or day.

You will need:

• 7″ metal zipper
• Faux leather / vinyl
• craft knife
• scissors
• E6000 glue
• ruler
• clutch pattern (print 2)
• weights & clothes pins
• rotary cutter (optional)

I purchased half a yard of black vinyl from my local fabric shop for less than $5, and will have enough to make at least three clutches. Cut an 8″ wide by 17″ long rectangle. You can make your clutch as long or short as you’d like, but it will need to be at least 1″ wider than your zipper. Print the pattern and tape together to create one long pattern. Place on top of your vinyl and use the craft knife to cut out the pattern. You may want to tape or weigh down the pattern in place. I used a rotary cutter for the inside square, but a craft knife works just as well.

Place your zipper under the vinyl so it shows through the center opening. With the zipper facing up, glue to the underside of the vinyl. Wipe away excess glue and cover with weights for a few hours or until dry to set the zipper in place.

Once the zipper is glued in place, fold the vinyl in half and glue the two sides together, following closely along the sides and scalloped bottom. Use weights and clothes pins to hold in place and allow to dry for a few hours.

Once it’s dry, you’re ready to enjoy your clutch! The E6000 feels really sturdy, but I wouldn’t try to pull at the seams, just in case.

What do you think about this simple clutch? I will definitely be making a few for my friends with the excess fabric. I would have sewn the zipper and seams in, but a special foot is needed to sew leather.
