Spooky Googly Eye Coaster

Halloween is almost here!

I’ve been trying to think up the perfect Halloween DIY project and I’ve finally picked one. But, I have to say it didn’t turn out quite how I wanted.

Supplies:

  • Assorted Googly Eyes
  • 2-part epoxy resin
  • Disposable containers
  • Popsicle stick
  • 4-inch circular mold
  • Blow dryer

Use water to determine how much resin you will need; fill the mold with water to your desired thickness, then measure how much water you used. Mix the correct amount of resin following the instructions included. This video tutorial is a great start if you’re unsure about mixing the resin.

You will be making your coaster upside down and in three layers. Pour a thin layer of resin in your mold and lightly blow dry to remove air bubbles. Place googly eyes upside down in the resin. Add more resign until the eyes float slightly. Blog dry again until air bubbles are gone. Cover the mold with a piece of paper or cloth to prevent dust from settling on the wet resin. Allow to cure for 24 hours.

Once cured, mix another small batch of resin and pour on top of the googly eyes as your third layer. This will be the bottom of your coaster, so be sure it is flat and bubble free. Cover and allow to cure for 24 hours.

Once fully cured, remove from mold and enjoy!

I didn’t blow dry the first layer of resin, and I originally had my googly eyes facing up and later had to flip them over causing a lot of air bubbles to form. I’m not happy with my finished coaster, but I believe that if you blow dry as you go, you’ll have a clear resin.

Take a picture and share with me if you try making a set for your Halloween party!
