My family likes to joke that I celebrate my birthday for a whole month, and this year it was basically true. I celebrated my birthday with my closest girlfriends and delicious wine, cheese and charcuterie last weekend. Since the party was all about wine, I went with Cheers themed wine labels from Beau-coup and Cheers plates from Target.
I decorated with pinwheels from Target, mylar ’25’ balloons from Michaels, and gold tassels I handmade. Unless you have a tassel cutter, you should probably just buy your tassels. They really do take longer than you expect, and rolling them neatly is harder than it looks.
I picked up an assortment of cheese from Whole Foods based off of suggestions from Pinterest. I picked an aged cheddar, Gruyere, Brie and Gouda. The brie is my favorite cheese – Triple Cream ‘Mt. Tam’ from Cowgirl Creamery. Remember to let your cheeses rest for an hour at room temperature before eating! For meat, I picked up prosciutto, salami and smoked salmon. We used sliced baguette rounds and crackers to eat with the meat and cheese. I also served grapes, sliced apple, nuts and caramelized onion pastry puffs.
We drank Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Merlot to pair with our meats and cheeses. I cut fresh rosemary from our backyard garden and sprinkled it across the platters for some greenery. I also picked up a bouquet of sunflowers, because who doesn’t love fresh flowers?
Overall it was a great and relaxing party. I didn’t have to cook anything, yet all my friends were impressed! I prepared everything before so I was able to enjoy the party without having to jump up to cut, cook or serve anything!
If you’re looking for a low-key party, wine and cheese is the way to go!
