DIY Faux Plant

The first of many new home decor DIYs! This isn’t really a DIY plant, but more of a faux plant hack. I was wandering the home decor section at Target (per usual) when I found a nice white potted faux plant – then I saw it was $25! I knew I could create a similar look with some supplies from Michaels.

Supplies:

  • Faux plant bundle
  • Pot
  • Foam that fits inside your pot
  • Ground coffee
  • White glue or mod podge

I found my faux plant bundle, foam and pot on sale at my local Michaels for a total of ~$10. Simply add your foam to your pot and stick you plant bundle in the center. My foam was a 1″ think circle that sat a few inches down from the top of my pot which was perfect. You can glue your foam and plant to the bottom of your pot if yours doesn’t fit snugly.

You can cover the foam with fake moss or rocks, but I chose to create a fake dirt for a more realistic look. Mix equal parts ground coffee and white glue or mod podge to create a thick paste. I used 1/3 cup each and it covered my foam perfectly. Pour over your foam and spread out until it completely covers any gaps.

Quickly remove any smudges on your pot with a wet q-tip. If it dries, you can still remove it it just takes a little extra scrubbing. Allow mixture to dry for several hours, and you’re done!

Your plant will smell like coffee for a few days, but it goes away. I really like that this plant cost me ~$10 and was super simple. The pre-made faux plants may look a little more realistic, but this is a great way to add a little green on a budget. I like the fake dirt instead of rocks or moss because if the plant falls over, it’s not going to spill anywhere.
